Dreams of Tiffany Blue - Lorraine Ash

For her bat mitzvah at Confetti in Randolph this month, Carly Whitman chose theme colors -- Tiffany blue, chocolate brown and white. They are the colors of the 13-year-old's dress, and she wanted them echoed in a cake that is modern, edgy and abstract, sophisticated yet youthful. Not unlike the atmosphere at the popular venue, opened by David Alan Caterers one year ago.

"It's a fun, funky atmosphere, a nightclub scene for 13-year-olds," said Emily Whitman of Randolph, mother of the guest of honor.

So the inventive Beth Karam-Putt, who creates cakes for David Alan Caterers events and for her own private customers through Sweet Sisters, set her mind and experience to the task. Both are formidable.
